About

Nichole Delafield is an artist and designer. Her work includes fine art with pastels, watercolor, acrylic and silk. She enjoys sharing her love of art and design through her signature hand painted silks. Design work for women and children includes clothing and accessories featuring these one-of-a-kind pieces.

The silk painting process involves guiding the color flow with brushes and resin on natural fibers such as silk, wool and cotton. Nichole’s hand painted designs start with white fabric, rolled from the bolt and stretched onto a large frame. Luminescent French fabric paint is applied with a brush to achieve a wash of color. Resin is applied to contain the paint when designing florals and other details. Finished fabrics are soft and vibrant. Wall hangings, clothing, fashion and home accessory items made from this stunning fabric become extraordinary works of art. Nature studies, bringing the viewer up close to her subject, are rendered with the soft richness of pastel chalk.

Nichole loves exploring color in acrylics or watercolor on paper, and then creates bold abstract collages from her color pages. Landscape watercolors capture meaningful places and memorable moments. The process of creating is just as rewarding to her as the end product.
Nichole is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in Fashion Design. Experience includes work in bridal design with A Perfect Fit and children’s wear with A Child’s Choice. In 1994 Nichole started her own women’s wear label based in the Washington D.C. area. She produced fashion shows and designed collections offering several interchangeable separates that would provide a stunning, yet functional wardrobe.

Elegance and originality, within the framework of classic clothing choices, guided her design. Work progressed to include designs for children. Based now, in Florida, Nichole continues to offer elegant accessories and clothing for women featuring her hand-painted fabrics.
Her fine art work has been exhibited and sold in galleries in Maryland, Virginia and Florida and hangs in private collections.

Nichole Delafield has taught art for 25 years, most recently creating the art curriculum and teaching at Orlando Junior Academy. Docent work, private lessons, summer camps and elementary school programs have given her an outlet to share her love of art, color and art history.

Writing is another form of expression for Nichole. Gull Lake Memories: A Kayaking Adventure has just been published. Part travel adventure, part memoir, her book shares stories and paintings from the historic Brainerd Lakes area in Northern Minnesota where her family is from.
