Life is an adventure! With any good adventure, there are surprises along the way that make the journey sweeter. Exploring the five springs flowing into the Little Wekiva River, over a one-mile stretch in Longwood, Florida, has been a journey full of surprise for Nichole and her son, Leif.
The Wekiva River Basin in Central Florida includes the Little Wekiva that meanders into the larger Wekiva River, which then flows into the St. Johns. Continuing North, the St. Johns River travels through the Ocala National Forest and on up to the city of Jacksonville, where it finally empties into the Atlantic Ocean. The forests surrounding the Wekiva river are home to black bears, panthers, coyotes, even a few monkeys. A lovely, one mile stretch of the Little Wekiva River in Seminole County is dotted with five springs. Sanlando, Palm, Ginger Ale, Pegasus and Starbuck. Come along with Leif and Nichole as the kayak, hunt for treasure, and explore these beautiful springs. Their journey of discovery unearths mysteries of the natural world and shares unforgettable stories of people who live their lives along the banks of the Little Wekiva River.

Leif, while writing this book, was a senior at Forest Lake Academy in Altamonte Springs, Florida. He was editor of the school newspaper, The Panther Press and now writes for his college paper.

Nichole is a local author, artist, and designer. Her writing explores the idea that making memories in special places provides a firm foundation for life. Time with family on the Wekiva River is one of those places.
